Los ‘Azules’ se fundaron en 1962 en Montevideo, aunque curiosamente disputan sus partidos en el Campo San Patricio, ubicado en Solymar. Desde entonces, han sido una parte integral del Campeonato uruguayo de rugby, forjando rivalidades notables con el Carrasco Polo y el Old Boys.
Un hito trascendental en la historia del club, más allá de sus logros deportivos, fue el trágico accidente aéreo de 1972. Mientras se dirigían a Chile, su avión se estrelló en la Cordillera de los Andes, resultando en la pérdida de más de un cuarto de la tripulación a bordo.
A pesar de este devastador episodio, el club ha mantenido su posición como uno de los referentes del rugby uruguayo, acumulando un total de 20 campeonatos a lo largo de su trayectoria, siendo el más reciente en el año 2023.
Es importante destacar que a lo largo de los años, el club ha diversificado sus actividades deportivas, incluyendo equipos de fútbol, hockey, baloncesto y balonmano. Sin embargo, ninguna de estas divisiones ha logrado igualar los éxitos alcanzados por el equipo de rugby.
