El libro “Los secretos de Elvira”, del escritor peruano Hugo Coya, cuenta que un agente encargado de vigilarla registró la “infidencia” en su expediente, pues “la información podía llegar a los alemanes”, enemigos de los británicos en la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
El servicio secreto al que se refería De la Fuente, nada menos que el MI6, la amonestó “severamente” por la imprudencia y la interrogó sobre los amigos a los que les había contado su labor. Por fortuna, no tenían vínculos con los nazis.
De la Fuente prometió ser más reservada a partir de entonces. Lo cumplió y continuó siendo, no solo espía para los británicos, sino agente doble infiltrada entre las filas alemanas durante casi tres años más, hasta mayo de 1945, poco antes del final del conflicto.
La inicial dificultad para guardar secretos no era la única “debilidad” que la convertía en una informante improbable.
